That moment when the state of being tired has left your body completely, and you are looking into the eye of the galaxy.

The abyss grabbed ahold of me, I couldn’t do anything but sit and smile

For the final night of this backpacking adventure I set out on a little over a month ago we decided to camp out in the mouth of Lyell. I had immediately fell in love with this area when we passed through it on our way out of Yosemite. That day I was already having thoughts of where we might camp on our way back in, even if it would cost us a 12 mile hike back starting at 6am.So the day arrived & our stoke was high. We walked back into Yosemite National Park and the feeling of being home washed over me instantly. I don’t know what makes an invisible line in the middle of the back country any different than any other pass or peak, but this had such a different feeling. Almost like she was saying “Welcome back home, RJ.” There were so many different options for shots here. The three previous nights I was shooting either right on the water or a little above it, my thoughts were to go for something a little different. Rocks, wildflowers, and a little bit of glacial run off, I can dig it.

I am a local here! I have been living and working in Yosemite Valley for the last 6 years now! If you would like to see more of my Yosemite photography swing by my website rjfranklin.com or check out my IG which is more regularly updated at @franklinsteinnn! Thank you!

**Yosemite's tallest peak, Mt Lyell, is just to the right of the Milky Way here. It is the tall point to the right of the center. It used to be a glacier, but in recent years studies have shown that the ice actually isn't moving anymore, which now classifies this "glacier" as an ice field.

I hiked up Mt. Dana and backpacked around Saddlebag Lake a few years ago and I still think about how beautiful they were.

Great shot by the way!

What is the best way to achieve this without having the stars create trails?
