A female friend of mine was living in an apartment with her boyfriend. She was feeling under the weather and decided stay home for the day. Ten minutes after her boyfriend had left for work, she heard someone opening the front door. Assuming it was her boyfriend, she went to greet him, except it wasn't him. It was her neighbor, someone she had almost never talked to.
She of course freaked out while the neighbor tried to pretend that he was drunk (at 8 in the morning) and accidentally went into the wrong apartment, but had zero explanation for why he had a key to her apartment. He hurriedly went into his own place while she slammed the door and barricaded it. She called the police and the building management. Police came to take a statement and interview the neighbor, who conveniently wasn't answering the door. Since he hadn't actually entered her apartment and they couldn't talk to him, they said there was nothing they could do. Building management cited the cops' inaction and said there was nothing they could do either. She ended up forcing the management to let her out of her lease so she could get the fuck outta that building.
