To all the people saying "buT u Half to waiT!"

Yes, there are wait times for non-critical things, but if you get in a car accident, you go to the hospital right away.

If you want to get a knee replaced, it can take a while... but it won't cost $49,500.

I've had a shitty knee for decades, had two prior surgeries (both free, quick, were amazingly easy). My knee is shit again, no meniscus left and arthritis hurts like a bitch, and recently turned 50 so I had a quick visit with my family doctor to get a once-over. Doc now says I should just get a knee replacement, yay finally. She gave me a requisition for xrays, this morning I went to the hospital down the road. I parked at 9:00 am, cost $2, walked in, was the only one there, changed into hospital pants, sat down for 30 seconds, had the xrays done, changed and went home, walked in the door at 9:25.

$2 and 25 minutes, tell me socialized medicine sucks? Every single time anything has happened in our family we've never had a problem, a complaint, or a frustration. Even when I was a kid and broke my knee the first time, everything was so fast and smooth. Then I had a crazy mountain biking accident and broke ribs and my helmet and a wrist and had cuts, the second I walked in the Emergency door everything was taken care of immediately. Repeat this same story two dozen times for whatever stupid things came along. I've lived in Quebec and BC and very rarely ever hear first hand complaints of our care system.

I know it isn't perfect, absolutely I know for sure there are horror stories. But come on, to say socialized medicine doesn't work is stupid, ignorant, dumb, backwards and full of shit. It's fucking awesome.

The price of healthcare is so artificially outrageous in the United States, barring something trivial and cheap (which somehow still costs hundreds), it is almost always cheaper to fly to Canada first class and go to the hospitals here.

We will charge you the full price because you aren't covered by the government, but our hospitals don't charge you for the priviledge of opening a door, and they don't overcharge you to make a dime. For something that'll run you into the 50 000$ range in the US, you'll get for the price of your plane ticket.
