They always do this, I dont understand it. You can put a piece of paper on the floor, and they will choose to go and lay on that, even though it’s obviously less comfortable than the carpet that fills the entire rest of the room.

I dropped a square potholder on the kitchen floor and my cat promptly squeezed her body into a loaf to fit atop it and go to sleep.
