It happens. My mom's cat is not doing great (she's insanely old for a cat though) and my mom spends a LOT of money on food just trying to get her to eat something. The stuff that gets turned away usually comes to my (much younger) cat though so at least it doesnt get returned.

I work at a pet supply store and we have a "condolences" button for these type of returns. We have to use it way more often than you think.
