Kevin Hart has suffered 'serious back injuries' following a car accident in Malibu.

Actor and comedian Kevin Hart has been treated for “major back injuries” after being caught up in a horror car crash in Los Angeles in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to TMZ, the Jumanji star was a passenger in one of his classic cars — a blue Plymouth Barracuda — when the driver lost control and swerved off the Mulholland Highway in Malibu Hills, crashing through a wooden fence and plunging down a gully around 1am.

TMZ reports that the driver of the car and a female passenger were found "pinned in their seats” under the crushed roof, with the fire department forced to saw off the top of the car to free them.

Authorities confirmed to the outlet that while the car belongs to Hart, he wasn’t driving — and that both he and the driver, his friend Jared Black, suffered “major back injuries”.

Police also told Entertainment Tonight that Black was “determined not to be under the influence of alcohol.”

The third passenger, a woman, did not require hospital treatment.

According to witnesses, Hart was the first person out of the wrecked vehicle, and was picked up by a member of his security team and taken home “to get medical attention”.

He was eventually treated at hospital.

Earlier on Saturday, the Central Intelligence star had shared a video on Instagram of himself out driving the vintage car, which he bought for himself just a few months ago as a 40th birthday present.

In a picture uploaded on social media in early July, Hart proudly posed with the Barracuda and revealed he’d nicknamed it “Menace”.

“I added some more muscle to the family for my 40th …. welcome home ‘Menace’ #MuscleCarLover,” he wrote to his 78 million followers.

When I was little we got hit from behind on the freeway by a drunk driver who was going around 20-30mph faster than us according to the police report. It didn't seem bad at first and everyone walked away scot free.

It didn't take very long before the damage became apparent. My mom's back was destroyed. We had to relocate to another state because the damage was so bad that very few surgeons are capable or even willing to do it. After the surgery the blood clots in her spine from the surgery led to a series of strokes in which the doctor overseeing her care told my father that it looked like a shotgun went off in her head.

This led to over a decade of my mother needing heavy painkillers just to reduce the pain. Over time the painkillers didn't work because her tolerance was so high, but she is now physically, emotionally, and mentally dependent on painkillers. My mother went from leading the scouts, supporting me and my brothers sports, running the household, and overall being a super mom to a woman who can hardly leave her bed.

Injuring my back is now one of my deepest fears. I'd rather the accident just kill me, because that's no way to live. I hope Kevin is okay. I'm pretty worried about him.

Edit: Thank you guys for all of the kind words. I showed this to my mother and it moved her. I'm glad I was able to share her story and that some of you are also sharing yours. I appreciate the overwhelming response.

Also, thanks for the gold! It's my first.

I know this is a small detail, but out of everything he’s done, they address him as “Jumanji star”?

These older cars look cool, but do not have safety standards anywhere near where they are today.
