Man I remember after graduating college I applied to 55 jobs. Guy I went to school with tried hooking me up with one 60 miles away at 28k. I did the interview, destroyed the test, and waited for the call.
....guy told me they were going with someone else as they thought I was too far away to commute. (I later learned someone else was making that same drive!!!)
I wrote a thank you letter with the few dollars I had and kept applying. Few days later the guy they hired showed up with shorts on and they called me up saying I had to be there tomorrow to do paperwork. I almost broke down in tears when I got off the phone.
Decade later and I laugh at that money compared to what I thankfully make, but damn when you're broke as fuck with no prospects....28k is lotto.
I only type this to remind folks to thank jobs for the interview. Never know who is paying attention.
(I later read the file on me and the score was perfect but the notes were about the distance and how I was overqualified. They WERE right.....but damn dont deny me.)
My gf has been applying for a job in Chicago since June.. so far she's turned in 86 application. Relocating is so damn hard. Even with a 4 year degree and an MBA. Aww
