About 8 years ago I was leaving a bar in my small home town when I saw a new work friend arrive (there were long, narrow stairs to the parking lot, so you couldn’t miss someone coming or going). We worked at beach camp, so picture your typical tall, blonde surfer dude.
I was surprised to see him (we worked outside of our tiny town), excited, and drunk. I pulled him into a bear hug, and was surprised when he said, “Careful!”, as he gently pushed me back. He then opened his coat and pulled a tiny chihuahua out of one of his coat pockets.
I was not expecting that.
He held his dog daintily in one hand while we resumed the bear hug greeting.
