I have went through the process with two people. I got married when working in Thailand in the 90s and brought my wife back to the US. We left my stepson with his grandparents until we got established here - found a steady job, bought a house, etc. After that we applied for him to come over and received a letter from the INS that he had been approved to live here. We then applied for his visa. That was August 2001. After 9/11 the State Dept suspended issuing visas. It took another 16 months.

TL:DR For 16 months we had one government agency saying it was okay to live here but another agency saying you can't come here.

Edit: Typo, changed 2011 to 2001

Punish people for hiring illegal immigrants. Suddenly we're gonna have a bunch of rich white dudes pushing hard for a fast, legal way to allow these folks to work these jobs.

My aunt and uncle believe 100% that all you have to do is walk into the office...fill out the application, receive your temporary paperwork...and presto! You’ll be a genuine US Citizen in a few weeks!

“It’s because they just don’t want to pay taxes, that’s all! Just fill out the paperwork!”

-So their dodging taxes like Trump? Doesn’t that just “make them smart”?

“...No! That’s illegal!”

Gymnastics.
