First time I ever went to Disneyland the first thing I saw as my family and I walked through the gates was a father smack his son on the back of the head SO hard, really put a damper on the first impressions of the "happiest place on earth"

Ah reminds me of the time I saw a mom angrily dragging her daughter by the pigtail through EPCOT.

I call it "The Disney Effect."

A trip to Disney World is this Apex Moment for most American families-- it costs a fuck ton, it's supposed to be magical, it's "all for the kids," etc., so the expectations are stratospheric.

Parents and kids are expecting it to be "The Happiest Place on Earth." The parents have invested serious sacrifice-making money into that expectation. The kids think it's going to be so perfect, they probably couldn't fall asleep last night because they were so excited, so now they're sleep deprived.

And then the top of their ice cream cone falls off.

Or the line is too long.

Or the ride is closed.

And it's 90 degrees out, humid and your kid is not happy.

And all hell breaks loose.

Any little thing goes wrong at Disney World and the reaction is a major meltdown.

If you go to Disney World, don't tell your kids you're going. They'll sleep better. And tell them something WILL go wrong. And remind yourself of that, while you're at it. And agree in advance to take a break and chill the fuck out every now and again if it's 90 degrees.

And don't hit your kids. Because of all the things that can go wrong at Disney World, that's the one your kids will never forget.
