My parents would take the power cord. But I had a spare. When they figured that out, they took the keyboard. But I was stubborn and used charmap (old Windows shit, no onscreen keyboards then).

There was an episode of Oprah (I think, it was my mom watching it) where this guy was addicted to World of Warcraft, and his wife said it was ruining their marriage. Oprah asks the dude to shred his WoW CDs on stage in front of everyone. He does it, like, zero hesitation. Everyone is like "oh my, he loves you this much! See?" Meanwhile I'm sitting there going "you don't need the CDs to play it, they were just an install device for the original game....

Edit: Tyra Banks old show, not Oprah.

The funny thing about punishments like that are the new generation will know this sort of stuff. The last generation got a whole pile of new technology they didnt know the basics of. The generation after does.

Psychologically the punishment would still semi-work. Take the router, kid keeps playing the game. Come home, and instead of the kid playing, they are off the computer with all the shit done you told them to do. Why? To protect their clever secret. Both parties get what they want.
