Kid Rock's posh childhood home listed in Macomb County for $1.3M

A luxurious estate in northern Macomb County on the market for $1.295 million was the childhood home of Robert James Richie — better known as the rap-country-rock music star Kid Rock.

“It must’ve been a wonderful place to grow up,” said Northville-based real estate broker Kelly Milstein, who is listing the 5.5-acre property in Bruce Township.

Kid Rock’s ancestral seat includes a 5,628-square-foot house (that has a 1,811-square-foot lower level) with indoor Jacuzzi room and a giant fireplace, as well as a large guest house, two garages that accommodate a total of five cars, and the apple orchard where Kid Rock has told biographers he once picked the red fruit.

The location is 3.7 miles from Romeo High School, which he attended in the late 1980s, according to Ritchie’s online bios.

Although his debut album, entitled "Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast," paints word pictures of a rough-and-tumble lifestyle, Kid Rock, now 45, grew up amid affluence as the son of the presumed sellers of the house, former auto dealer Bill Ritchie, now 75.

“It’s for sale by the original owner, but I’m sorry — I just can’t talk about my clients,” Milstein said.

Online public records show the current owner is William R. Ritchie, who also owns a home in celebrity-studded Jupiter Island, Fla., where singer Celine Dion and pro golfer Tiger Woods also have homes.

The four-bedroom, four-bath, neo-Georgian colonial house is steps away from a private stable with two horse stalls and a tack room, a tennis court, and the estate sports the name “Apple Crest Farm,” Milstein said.

“Isn’t that gorgeous? That’s what everyone calls this property,” she said, which is zoned to allow three horses. It went on the market Tuesday, Milstein said, adding: “I’ve never seen so many (Internet) hits on a listing.”

The location — near 32 Mile and Dequindre — is 15 minutes from downtown Rochester, where gentleman farmers can buy classy horse tack and their teenage kids can pick up CDs of local music stars.
