This is it right here. If you want to stop illegal immigration crack down on the employers. BUT you have to also tell Americans how much the prices will rise on many, many items and services.

I agree the employers should also be held liable.

I know of one employer (this is my only experience, so take it with a refined grain of salt) who had to fire a group of workers because the company found out they were illegal after the fact. They were a staffing company, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Or this person was lying to me. Could've been both.

I can't imagine corporations not knowing. They're obviously not doing any kind of security check. Last I read, in the US, you need a Social Security Number to work...

So, I have an answer stemming from my years in construction. This will probably only apply to "right to work" states, but here we go.

The scam is very simple, the General Contractor is hired by the people who supply the money to run the project. The GC will then hire subcontractors that, for all intents and purposes, they have no legal labor obligations to, other than to pay for work completed and maintain minimum OSHA safety standards. The subcontractor then hires another subcontractor which they are now absolved of any legal obligation to ensure that they are hiring legal workers. All the subcontractor to the GC has to do is ensure that whomever they are paying for their subcontracted labor for has legal rights to work in the US. What this does is create plausible denibility for the rich person that is supplying the money that they were not aware of any illegal immigrants working on their jobsite, as they are not responsible for ensuring that is the case. This, despite the fact that if they were building the project in a labor union state, it would cost at lesst 3 times what they are investing. This is just another example of the rich exploiting the poor using legal loopholes.
