I was the opposite. I thought we got our period once and we were done. I was excited to "get it over with". My friend had to explain it happened every month until I got old. That was a shitty surprise.
My mum (educated at a Catholic boarding school) believed you could get pregnant from sitting on a seat recently vacated by a man. So when gentlemen offered her a seat on the train, she always refused, thinking, "You're not tricking me that way!"
My mom never told me much about it because she only got it when she was 15 and assumed I would too. Next thing I knew I was 11 and sitting on the toilet crying because I was bleeding, not knowing what the hell was happening. A week later they told us about periods in sex ed, a bit too late if you ask me.
