McConnell couldn't escape 'Moscow Mitch' at Kentucky's biggest political picnic

FANCY FARM, Ky. — National derision followed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell home as Democrats taunted the GOP leader with T-shirts, signs and continuous chants of “Moscow Mitch" during his speech at St. Jerome Catholic Church's annual political picnic.

McConnell and his team have taken the attacks, spawned from his refusal to take up election security measures, more personally than previous barbs. But Kentucky's senior senator did his best to ignore those hecklers during Saturday’s speech.

“I’m going to spend as much time talking about (Democrats) as Kentuckians will voting for them this November — none,” McConnell announced.

McConnell, instead, focused on his record reshaping the federal judiciary and how he "saved the Supreme Court for a generation" by blocking President Barack Obama's pick in 2016. He bragged about his reputation as the "Grim Reaper" for killing the progressive measures coming out of the Democratic-controlled House.

The GOP leader also slammed national Democrats for targeting him in 2020, and called out out retired Marine Lt. Col. Amy McGrath, who did not attend Saturday’s event, by deliberately mispronouncing her name.

“They handpicked Amy McGaffe,” McConnell said of the Senate candidate. “Oh, I mean McGrath. She sends her regrets. She’s still working up an answer on Brett Kavanaugh with her friends at MSNBC.”

Just got back home from the picnic. You couldn't hear him speak over the "Moscow Mitch" chants.

Finally a title that fits, it's the first one that has made him squirm and squeal and throw temper tantrums across the nation.
