I don’t want a dog because I get attached and then they die and it is very hard on me. I know they bring a lot of joy but I would rather not have to deal with it.
It's because: A) dad knows he'll become attached to the dog, B) dad will be the one who takes care of the dog most often, and C) eventually to dog will die (they all do) and he will be sad. It's not that dad doesn't like dogs; he just doesn't want to go through all that crap again. Stop trying to make dad sad.
