On this day 75 years ago, Warsaw Uprising started, biggest military effort of any European resistance. Poles decided liberate their capitol, as Soviet troops were closing in. Soviets halted their advance and allowed Uprsing to be carshed. Insurgents lasted for 63 days, with almost no outside help

The Warsaw Uprising museum is one of the best museums I have ever been to (next to the Jewish Museum) - I recommend it to anyone who visits Warsaw.

I feel bad for polish paratroopers who were training to aid warsaw but ended up getting dropped over market garden to bail out the brits. Their disappointment must have been palpable.

I was in Warsaw thistime 5 years ago for the 70th - hadn't planned it, it just turned out that way.

It was certainly an intense experience - I ended up in the middle of a bunch of bikers revving their engines and letting off flares when the siren went.
