I don't understand why people get upset over this. Locking up after closing time (as referenced in the article) is also part of your work and those wages can definitely add up for an employee over the year. Work = work and employees should be paid accordingly. It's nonsense that employers can require you to work up to 10 minutes a day without getting paid. That adds up rather quickly.
That's why I usually sprinted home as soon as I could after checking out.
