Imagine if we didn't have to spend that much money on the military because of world peace. It's idealistic, but if something like world peace could be achieved, just imagine how much we would advance as a species, how we could drastically improve the standard of living, and how much more we could focus on issues like global warming.
The US does not need to choose between funding NASA and and helping working class or poor people. We did both in the 1960s, but then we had a top marginal rate of over 70%.
