Why do the teachers pay for the supplies in the first place though? In my opinion the school is responsible for supplying everything. Pretty sure this is also how it works in most of Europe.
Edit: People pointed out to me that it it isn't so common that things are supplied by the school. That's kind of ridiculous to me, especially in the more wealthy countries a school could easily supply pencils and other utilities for the poorer kids.
I told her no because luckily my district gives us money to buy supplies so I literally didn't have to pay for any of it, but it was really sweet and heartwarming to be reminded of wonderful humans.
