That's a hell of a dent, hope she's OK, $700 for a blob of glue on the noggin is taking the bloody piss, that's outrageous!

Back in my salon days, I gouged the crap out of my thumb with thinning shears. After an hour when it had not stopped bleeding profusely, my boss insisted we go to the urgent care.

They wanted $400 up front. Said no stitches would be involved, only glue. It would take about 10 minutes tops. $400 fucking dollars for 10 minutes and some glue? Fuck that. I grabbed my boss and we went across the street to CVS. She patched me up in her car with $10 of supplies. Healed beautifully and I don't even have a scar.

I do not understand AT ALL how they can charge so extensively for the simplest procedures. It's fucking mind blowing.

ER doc here (Canadian so I never think about cost) - there’s no way that wound should have been glued. Glue is only for well approximated, minimal tension lacerations. This has a significant area that needs closure (stitches are the only way to do this) and around the eyebrow is a very mobile area due to the muscles involved in facial expressions so high tension (also the reason why steri-strips would be a poor choice here). Thinking about the end results, this is a little girl who now every time she looks in the mirror will have a chunk of a scar above her right eye. If it was stitched, it would heal to a slightly-lighter-than-the-skin-around-it Y-shaped scar that you could only see if you got close and looked hard (I’ve got 3 eyebrow scars so I know very well how they heal with and without stitches). So I’m trying to think why would a physician do this? Lower cost than stitches? Quicker so they can get to the next patient? Most likely is they didn’t want to put their big kid pants on to freeze/stitch this like they should in order to avoid a briefly unpleasant procedure for her. I do hope she heals well. Facial wounds usually heal up within 5 days and the glue will flake away by then. Be sure to massage the area frequently after that and yes, the deep bump you feel will get smaller with time.
