I don’t care that Ariel is black, but there is something about how everyone is acting about this on Reddit that bugs me.

This is grandstanding, pure and simple. If there was really an outrage over this, enough of an outrage where it would affect ticket sales, it would have never happened. Disney is smart enough to know making this change would be slightly controversial, but overall receive praise by the media and likely boost their ticket sales.

Young black girls may feel special and more included, which is great, but that is not at all why Disney made this change. This isn’t a “brave” thing for Disney to do. It would have been in the 60s, but not today.

Between Ariel, Annie, and MJ, there are a weird number of characters that go from ginger to black in reboots. Its nothing to flip out over, just kind of weirdly common. Like you'd think blondes or more common hair colors would get hit more.
