That’s her nose, not finger?

My grandparents retired early and spent the late ‘60s and early ‘70s traveling all over the west in a travel trailer. They looked pretty square (think Jimmy Stewart and Katharine Hepburn), but made all sorts of “colorful” friends along the way.

Grandad — who had smoked marijuana on occasion back in his quasi-hobo days (before marijuana was criminalized) — would sometimes slip off with the younger men for a joint. And Granny would invite everyone to join them for martinis. (Cocktail hour was sacred.) They’d also offer advice to novice campers, if it seemed welcome — but mostly just enjoyed getting to know folks so very different from themselves.

Lots of camaraderie amongst free spirits of all walks of life in those days. 😁

I got my first real teepee

Bought it from a native tribe

Loom weaved 'til my fingers bled

It was the summer of '69
