I worked at a pet store for a few years and the number of parents who think taking their kids to the fucking pet store is a good idea for a birthday party is insane. Then the parents scream at me when I tell them they can't play with the cats or other animals they start to scream on how we have to let them it's our job.
I work at a pet store and can confirm that yes, asshole parents will take their kids to pet stores thinking we're a free zoo. It's horrible. The kids will destroy everything. I had to drain our turtle tank once because some kid decided to throw cricket food (a fine corn powder) into the water. I love kids, but every time I see them at work I get a stress headache.
What gets me the most is, I don't live in a great town. It's a shitty Michigan town between Kalamazoo and Detroit, and these people will just sit in their car and send their small children in by themselves to roam around the store. I'll never understand it. Sometimes the kids are cute and ask me cute questions about the animals and that's what I love to see, but it's rare and few between. Most of then will just look me in the eye as they dump an entire shelf of reptile bulbs onto the floor. (That's a true story too)
