Lets be real here, he simply doesn't realise that they're playing him. He thinks he's the worlds best negotiator, the worlds best deal maker. He thinks they're his friends because they've had a little chat time, maybe even slipped few promises of favour under the table planned for when he's no longer president.

The President of the United States of America has no clue what a normal relationship of any type looks like.

Taken as a standalone fact, it's fairly terrifying.
