The hardest thing for some people to do is let go when they do something embarrassing. You spin it around in your head hundreds of times and think what you should have done or said differently. You try to block the memory completely, but when it reappears it causes an almost physical reaction like a stab straight thru your brain. I still remember when I was with a Jewish friend of mine and I said happy kristallnacht because I thought it was a holiday.
