In the case of depression, or even just generally feeling down, let's imagine a factory in the brain that makes the happy chemicals. Sometimes, the issue is that the factory isn't getting the raw materials, which include the actions listed in this post. Sometimes, the issue is that there's a power outage somewhere else, so the factory can't run, which is situational depression, brought on by crises or reading the news at all, ever. Sometimes, the factory is poorly managed, which leads to bad output, which is what happens when people are intentionally and constantly negative.

But sometimes, the factory is just broken. Sometimes, it doesn't matter if you buy solar panels and order a surplus of the highest quality materials and hire the best manager around: the machines in the factory just don't work. This is the kind of depression I have: my happy factory just refuses to perform. So I outsource the work to the people in the lovely land of Wellbutrin, and things are much better.

easier said than done but this is what self care is all about. Take care of yourself.

Dear brain you useless fucker,

I drank the clear splashy stuff

I went out under that bright fucker up there

I did the thing with the moving and the sweating

I talked with the happy fuckers

I ate the green stuff

Now make the happy chemical you useless lump of fuck.

It's a retoast. I saw it somewhere. It mirrors my sentiments.
