There actually is a movement of people to rephrase pro-choice.

Edit: I woke up from a fever induced slumber to find this gained some traction. Instead of replying to everyone individually, I think this quote from Cait Vaughan said on Citations Needed Episode 49, sums up the anti-"choice" movement. This is something I'm not fully well read on but the moment I saw this post, and others like it, I think back to what she said in this podcast.

"So, but yeah, I mean choice is a term I think a lot of people are moving away from. I don’t use it very much in my work. Because, uh, you know, choice to me implies that you have a lot, you know, a kind of buffet of options and you pick your favorite one and really what happens and the move is a lot to talking about decisions and decision making and really that’s because that’s what it is. When someone has an unintended pregnancy, they have to make a decision at some point and that doesn’t mean it’s a decision that they made easily or that they are in love with. It doesn’t mean they had a whole bunch of other possibilities that they could have embraced. And so I think decision is the word we use a lot. And also I just, instead of saying pro-choice, I just say I’m an abortion rights advocate, I’m pro-abortion because I think saying abortion over and over again and talking about it as normal, common, and healthcare is really the best way to, to fight, one of the best ways to fight stigma over and over again. Is to take the power out of the sort of hiding behind choice. And also when you put pro-life next to pro-choice, pro-choice looks kinda crummy next to pro-life. Like pro-life looks way better and who doesn’t want to be that instead? So I think I also just don’t like the alternative."

TLDR: choice is very stigmatized and implies people have a plethora of options when they may not. Further, when used beside pro-life, the term sounds like the lesser of the two options.

“I’m not pro-choice. I just think women should have a choice.”

Reminds me of me when I was in high school...

"I'm pro life since I would never get an abortion but I think other women should have access to safe abortions." I was a dumbass lol
