Worked in a dementia unit for tenants who displayed violent temperaments. Absolutely horrendous condition. One old lady used to tap all the time and it wasn't till an elderly man from the war days worked out she was talking in Morse code. Turns out she was a decoder from ww2 when she was a young girl. And another used to st and at the security door waiting for her dad to rescue her because we'd kidnapped her and was holding her against her will..she was 90

My mom doesn’t suffer from dementia. She painted this to show in her own illustration how the mind drift away when someone suffer from dementia. She titled the painting “how to disappear completely and never be found”.

We’re from Denmark, and her paintings have mostly been hidden away in her little painting room. I asked for permission to share her work on Reddit and I’m excited to show her how “the world” reacts to her talent.

I probably could have come up with a better title for the post, but I’m not as creative as she is.

Edit: ok ok guys, I get the title sucks. I’m sorry :( I’ll make sure mama scold me when I go see her.

I used to work in a dementia unit as a CNA and her painting is strikingly similar to one of the patients there. She would wander the halls as night in her long flowing night gown. She was a non verbal waif of a woman that looked liked a ghost wandering the halls. She was one of my favorites because she was one of the few that wasn’t violent. I would hold her hand and put her back to bed. One day her son came in and was trying so hard to have a conversation with her. I could see how hard he was trying to find some bit of his mother in what was essentially a shell. It was heartbreaking to watch.
