An unidentified man trespassed in Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's New York City district office on Saturday and, when police arrived at the scene, sprayed a fire extinguisher and attempted to hide in a utility closet, police said.
"It doesn't seem to be a break-in. It seems to be a trespass," said George Tsourovakas, a spokesman for the New York City police department. "Upon our arrival, he ended up discharging a fire extinguisher, which caused a cloud condition," and then "retreated into a utility closet."
The incident occurred at about 4:40 on Saturday afternoon. The man, who is 27, was taken into custody, the spokesman said.
The local ABC affiliate, ABC7, reported that no one else was at the Queens district office at the time.
The first-term Democratic congresswoman has emerged as one of the best known lawmakers in Washington for her embrace of progressive causes and her deft use of social media.
Ocasio-Cortez was in Washington on Saturday and she is due to appear on ABC News' "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday morning.

One of the most insane aspects of the Right’s demonization of AOC is that she is exactly the kind of person they should want in Congress. While I understand that she espouses the wrong ideologies for them, she got herself elected by good, old fashioned hard work. She walked her precincts, talked to voters whether they supported her or not, listened to voters whether they supported her or not.
Pundits like to mock her for being "stupid," but these are the same people that criticize the Left for being elitist! She was a working class waitress of all things, prior to being elected. She is the embodiment of what U.S. politics should be. She got into politics to make a difference for people, not corporations or to enrich her already extensive bank holdings. They mocked her for being unable to afford clothing to go to DC, as if that meant she shouldn’t be there because of that. Now how elitist is that?
She’s what Trump supporters say they like about Trump, except for the political leanings. They ought to at least respect her. But it shows how morally bankrupt they are, and how much she terrifies the status quo that she’s receiving this much heat.
