The vending machine at the children’s hospital overcharges by 10¢ on every item with no written reason. When I contacted customer support, they offered to send back my 10¢, but nothing more.

I'm guessing they're passing on the card processing fee to anyone who pays with a card

Did the final transaction close at 1.60 or 1.50? A lot of vending machines authorize a higher amount, but the final transaction closes for the cost of that you selected.

Happens often if there are items with different prices in the machine. It'll authorize for the highest price item, but the final transaction closes for the cost of the item purchased.

Vending machine companies seem to be above the law. There is a Pepsi vending machine outside the local supermarket (I worked at the supermarket and had to take complaints all the time) that hasn't worked for a year, yet it's still plugged in and people still try to use it. Most people don't bother complaining when it eats their money and gives nothing because, "Hey, it's just $1," but I've personally told management about it and contacted the company. Nothing gets done.

The same company owns the little vending machines that kids put 50 cents in to get a toy. They advertise you are going to get a toy or ball or something but all it gives you is a tiny sticker or temp tattoo.
