I'm a retired RN. When working in the hospital I found that other nurses were will to watch your patients if you need a smoke but not if you needed to just sit for 5 minutes. Nurses rarely get lunch or bathroom breaks. They are too busy. But smoking yeah. someone will watch your patients for the 10-15 minutes it takes to get to a smoking area and smoke a cig then get back to the floor. Sigh. I just went and had a nice bathroom break. Sometimes it was the only one I got on a 12 hour shift.

I don't know if other jobs are like this but nursing sure was.

My friend is a smoker and she goes to work 30 minutes earlier every day, so she doesn’t work less because of her smoke breaks.

Worked with a guy years ago that refused to poop at home during the week. He liked to get paid to poop. And yeah a 10 min break a day adds up to 40 hours a year.
