After a night in Salem, MA, my friends and I got pulled over on Halloween at 11:50pm right before my exit and he asked everyone for their IDs and if we have been drinking (they were pretty drunk and we were all in costume). I said that they have been, and I'm the designated driver, and he seemed mad about it... You're welcome for taking responsibility...
Edit: This was in Salem Massachusetts, where the Salem witch trials were. No, I wasn't swerving/recklessly driving. Yes I know the cop doesn't have the right to ask for everyone's IDs, but we complied since we were all of age. I wanted to make it simple on the cop so he could go out and get the real drunk drivers.
Bonus: My idiot friends told me after that they had an open bottle in my car and I did go apeshit on them because that was one of the two rules. No smoking weed in my car (at the time it was illegal) no open bottles... idiots...
I've gotten pulled over a handful of times over the 16 years I've had a license and I've never once been asked if I know why I've gotten pulled over. Is this something that actually happens?
For the record I'm not a bad driver, but I've been waging a never ending war with one of the license plate lights on my car for the last 12 years. I'll replace it only for it to burn out a month later. I got pulled over for it often while living in small town USA...cops mostly just used it as an excuse to pull me over.

I prefer " because you haven't learned how to fight crime yet?"
