And he’s done it all in a matter of weeks.

Heading into Chapter 3 last week, I had tweeted that the John Wick franchise, in many ways, feels like the modern, action-oriented equivalent of ’80s slasher franchises. The Wick films, of course, are action rather than horror, but what I meant was that they have surprisingly proven to deliver on pretty much everything that brought us back for more Freddy and Jason.

With their focus on over the top violence, a central boogeyman character who can’t be killed and a deep mythology, the Wick movies scratch a whole lot of itches for horror fans begging for the return of brutal slasher franchises, and Chapter 3 in particular comes up with so many creative ways for Wick to kill people that no recent horror movie can even compete. It also doubles down on John Wick’s status as an un-killable force, with the final moments managing to evoke both the ending of the original Halloween and the beginning of Halloween 5.

At this point, it feels safe to say that John Wick truly is the modern day franchise boogeyman.

In Chapter 3, Wick hurls an ax straight into a dude’s head. I rest my case.

So just how many people has John Wick killed, across three movies now? The bodies pile up in such rapid fire succession that it’s dizzying to even count, but here’s what I’ve got based on quotes from director Chad Stahelski alongside a little help from Rotten Tomatoes:

Keep in mind these aren’t the numbers of total victims in the films, but rather the victims that Wick himself has laid waste to. Halle Berry’s own total in Chapter 3 is quite respectable!

Using these numbers as a rough basis, John Wick has now killed a staggering 306 people in just three movies, giving him a higher body count than most slashers racked up across franchises that went on much, much longer than just three movies. For a little context, Freddy Krueger has only killed around 40 people across the whole Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

The two slasher villains with the highest body counts are Jason Voorhees at 157 and Michael Myers at 140, which means Jason and Michael have *combined* killed 297 people across 20+ movies. Yes, that means John Wick has killed more people in three movies than both Jason and Michael managed to knock off in the Friday the 13th and Halloween franchises combined!

How many new victims will Wick claim in Chapter 4? We’ll find out on May 21, 2021.

That’s apple and oranges. It’s John Wicks job to kill people. Jason and Michael just do it as a hobby.

This is hyperbole, has John Wick destroyed a whole space station full of people because Jason did in Jason X.

I believe it, John is more efficient at killing and has way more potential victims.
