My father considers himself to be a devout Catholic.

As a boy he was raised as such and attended church up until the point he moved to the sticks.

But I'm insanely proud at how opened minded he is for being born in the 40s and raised the way he was. He loves talking about science, space, physics, etc. He believes there is other life out in space. Which is sometimes hard for religious people to fathom.

He's really accepting of LGBTQ people. He takes the usual "what they do doesn't affect me so why should I worry about it" stance.

I swear my father was born in the wrong generation to be as open minded and accepting as he is for how he was raised.

It blows my mind.

Pretty sure my grandparents just always assumed I was gay after I dyed my hair in high school. I mean- I am gay, but they didn’t really know that lol

Edit. Died to dyed

My father is very similar. In his 40’s, devout Christian and hardcore conservative. Until last year, when his church merged with a church specifically for drug addicts. Never before had my father seen the love of Jesus in action.

In the past year my father has gone from a hard, unforgiving man, to one of peace and comfort. He loves everyone in the most sincere way. He’s still Christian, but now he embraces Love Thy Neighbor in a way he never before could. He says he’s recovering from religion.
