PS5 Players Can Play with PS4 Players Using Backwards Compatibility, Sony Confirms

When you stop to think about it, this should be pretty obvious, but it's nice to have it confirmed by Sony all the same. Yes, PS5 players will be able to play with PS4 players thanks to backwards compatibility. If you nab a PS5 at launch but your PS4 friends don't, you'll still be able to enjoy your favourite online titles with them. Again, it's all about this "seamless" next-gen transition that Sony keeps mentioning.

Cross-generation play was brought up during the company's most recent investor relations question and answer session. When talking about backwards compatibility in general, vice president John Kodera was quick to add that cross-generation play will be important to the PlayStation community. Keeping existing players invested is clearly of high priority to Sony as it looks to introduce the PS5, supposedly next year.

This is great. This will bring consoles more in line with PC and it won't separate the player base for online games. Fantastic news!
