I'm legitimately surprised by how much the comic resonates with me.
I have a very "exotic" (SE Asian) name but have always lived in a predominately white/western environment. Instead of being proud of the deep meanings it has & all the time and effort my parents poured into coming up with the name.. I spent most of my childhood being ashamed of it - just because my western friends found it weird & couldn't pronounce it properly.
A very touching piece. Thank you u/nathanwpyle for making this :')
Love this. I’m a relief/substitute teacher and I often get a kid to run through the roll with me before class. It’s remarkable how much of an impact it can make; not only in those moments when first impressions are being formed but on the class behaviour across the whole day.
