Today I’ll be graduating high school. This is a big milestone for me. Both of my parents dropped out in middle school, and while everyone else was in school, I was living in my mom’s car and out of school this fall. I was taken by CPS and started attending a high school this school year.

I am a high school teacher who lived in a car following hurricane Harvey. For 2 months I lived in my Crosstrek and went to work at a destroyed campus. I understand that you had to work harder than any one else around you. That is what the victory is here. You have the perseverance to trudge through. It is your ability to keep going when others give up. And no one can take that away from you. Go chase a dream, you have what it takes to achieve one. Congratulations, you earned it.
