I love the clap backs by the owners on the reviews of the restaurant

As is almost always the case with these owner responses, we have absolutely no idea if the owner is saying the truth. I am sure it's become a great way for owners to cover their asses to just toss out some accusations against the bad reviews. How does this owner know they're even calling out the right anonymous reviewer even if it is true?

At an old restaurant job of mine, it was a small locally owned place where the owners were the managers. It was a patio place, with order and pickup windows. If it was dark out, we couldn’t see that far past the windows because of all the light inside reflecting off the glass.

So it’s about 5 minutes until close, one coworker goes out to the patio to wipe down the tables, and she is suddenly knocking on the order window saying that there’s a very disgruntled customer outside. I told her to get him to come to the window to which he immediately said to me, “about time I got some service.” I asked him how long he’d been waiting at the window, to which he replied, “well I was sitting waiting for a server.” To which I had to explain that we have an order window and we don’t send out a waiter or bus out the food, you have to pick it up and whatnot. Whatever, seemed like he got it.

Then he ordered a full meal. It was 5 minutes till close when we noticed he was there, by now it’s less than 2 till close. The grill is no longer on, things have started being cleaned up, so we turn it back on for the guy and get everything back out, and tell him, “it’ll be quite a while.” A usual serving time for a customer when it’s not super busy for a meal would be at least 15 minutes, as we made everything fresh on the spot. But with everything being cleaned up and turned off, it would take like a half hour, but the boss figured she was staying late anyway, she’d take care of the extra cleaning.

The guy has the balls to leave a scalding review saying “we ignored him for 20 minutes, didn’t bring him his food, he had to pick it up, and we made him wait extra long before getting his meal,” all without mentioning how late he showed up, how he didn’t get our ordering system, and how we stayed open later just to accommodate him.

Our manager clapped back with, “before you leave a bad review, you should really come to the store WHILE WE’RE OPEN and we’ll gladly comp you a free meal to get a real experience here. Feel free to email me and we can discuss this. We prefer to take care of things first hand with our customers to leave them satisfied.” The guy didn’t even want the free meal because he was so embarrassed (I’d assume).
