At my internship our instructor would buy us dinner for helping set up an event with him and he had to clarify to only buy food and a regular drink and/or cheap alcohol because a prior intern ordered a $150 bottle of wine and thought it was okay 🤦🏻♂️
Once a week or 2 I buy lunch for all the guys that work under me (it's only 5). Usually it's hand my card to one guy who goes and gets fast food for everyone, or just a pizza. It's now a rule that everyone gets their lunch paid for except RJ, because he ordered 4 extra combo meals and called his friends over to have lunch on my dime.
Edit: To clarify why he's not fired- 1) It's a small town and hard to find a lot of people willing to do the work, and 2) he's actually a very good worker, but just really, really dumb. He didn't do it maliciously. He just doesn't think far enough ahead to realize there are consequences. This is very far from the worst thing to happen at our shop.
