Now that’s a genuinely good human being. Doing something because it’s the right thing to do instead of doing something for the recognition.

This made me smile, we sometimes did not have food as kids (I remember my brother was rushed to a hospital because he kept fainting and getting sores from malnutrition), and a lot of times being hungry is the only thing you can think about. Nothing else matters. Eventually it goes away, you feel it less, and of course you have less energy, but until then it is hard to pay attention to anything else.

So the person who wrote this and his/her mom did a really good thing. Something like that legitimately changes someone else's life. What a lovely thing to read.

That is awesome.

My mom did something similar--she set up a scholarship for a friend of hers' kids, and they never knew she did it until she died. They all thought they miraculously won a scholarship.
