Jeffrey Glenn Miller); age 20; 265 ft (81 m) shot through the mouth; killed instantly Allison B. Krause; age 19; 343 ft (105 m) fatal left chest wound; died later that day William Knox Schroeder; age 19; 382 ft (116 m) fatal chest wound; died almost an hour later in a local hospital while undergoing surgery Sandra Lee Scheuer; age 20; 390 ft (120 m) fatal neck wound; died a few minutes later from loss of blood
The memorial is beyond touching and should upset everyone. In the 90s they wanted to build a nice proper memorial for the four victims. The local VFW and vets protested it saying it was a memorial to “terrorists”. They didn’t do everything they wanted to do and did the small one with the lamp posts where the bodies fell.
“However, what followed was nothing less than a sham. In July of 1986, when Bruno Ast’s impressive May 4 memorial design was selected and approved for construction at a cost of $1.3 million dollars, the American Legion was quick to denounce the planned May 4 memorial as a “memorial to terrorists.” Officials of Kent State University bowed to the conservative pressure, and their efforts (or lack of any effort) to raise funds were proof that they caved in.”
