People who are talking about living within your means might be missing the fact that these are high school kids who can’t afford lunch.. And might not be permitted to graduate because of it. This is not about buying something flashy and going into debt - this is about cafeteria lunch.
My school took away parking passes when the debt reached a certain limit. Not only could you not get food, but you also couldn’t drive to school anymore. It’s almost like we’re set up to fail.

It's that you can't walk across the stage. They still legally graduate.
