I thought that there'd be no way that Graveler could survive a 4x super effective STAB move hitting its weaker defensive side and it's in the *red, but...
0- SpA Lapras (lvl 1) Whirlpool vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Graveler (lvl 100) : 4-12 (1.2 - 3.8%) -- possible 7HKO after trapping damage
This happens so often for me. I'll get a Pokemon down to almost fainted with a strong move and then think "I don't want to waste the strong move on it. Let's conserve pp" and then the trainer heals, they self destruct, it's a low roll, or some other bullshit. Pokemon is fun!

This is even more fun when it’s a trainer battle against a hiker. And he has one Pokémon. And uses it as his opening move.
“Woah, how’d you beat me kid?!”
