As a medical provider I can tell you right now that wouldn't work. You can ask us to document that, but we don't have to. Although if you're being prudent, you can should. Refusing to do certain labs or prescribe certain medications does not automatically make you liable for anything. We as providers have to use best practice when treating patients. Unfortunately also insurance plays a huge role in this as well. Without a proper diagnosis insurance companies won't pay for certain labs or medications. If there is no basis for the testing then the provider or the patient will take the hit for the cost of the test. Medicine is not a concierge service. We as providers use our best judgment on a case by case basis in order to properly treat each patient.

“You know your body best”

Uhhh, let’s just be careful with this idea. 4+ years of medical training isn’t anything to wave a stick at either.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying "don't listen to the patient," I'm saying "let's maintain a healthy avoidance of uninformed self-diagnosis."
