We used to have a rabbit that came back to our yard every year to have babies, even though we had a dog. Our Golden was the most gentle soul and when the babies would get old enough to wander from their little nest, he would grab them with his mouth and bring them back. He never hurt one. I always wondered why the rabbit came back every year but I'm sure it's because she knew he would never hurt her babies. He was the best dog.

I walk the entire lawn before I mow because of this.

Good thing you noticed them before mowing the lawn. We had rabbits on our yard for many years but they always burrowed in the shrubs by the garden and I noticed one year the rabbits did not nest there, and i did not see any older rabbits running around. I thought it was strange until I was mowing the lawn one day and found that they burrowed in the middle of the yard. I did not see them and unfortunately killed 3 of the babies with my mower, the other 2 were too deep in there and made it.

Scarred my pretty well and made me feel like a serial killer when I was hosing the blood off the grass and lawn mower. Thought I would share this story so people will be more careful mowing and not make the mistake I did.
