So - worked professionally as a cook and at one stop I was at we had a Sous who told me to put black pepper on a cut I had.
Thought he was fucking with me but he wasn't really that type of guy so...
Doesn't hurt - stops the bleeding and its a jillion times better than a band-aid that doesn't stop the bleeding and will fall off after a few minutes of actually using your finger/hand.
TL:DR The pepper on a cut thing is legit
