This is one of the big issues social workers struggle with.

If anyone was unaware, in many states it is perfectly legal to pay people with disabilities a percentage of pay based on how much work they do compared to a normal-functioning employee.

What's worse is they often work for a percentage of min wage rather than a percentage of what a normal factory employee would make.

Having a close family member do this sort of work, it is a blessing that he has the ability to work. It really enriched his life. It’s just assembling boxes that probably wouldn’t otherwise merit a job but it’s everything to him.

This is a grey area there is a huge spectrum of disability. I worked with a girl who came in once a week for 6 hours. She was severely mentally and physically disabled but she would come in and fold letters and stamp envelopes.

She did it slowly but she earned $12 AUD an hour which is well below a legal wage and her Mum had a chance to run errands because she was a full time cater.
