Mike Huckabee Thinks Chick-fil-A Has a Legal Right to Be in Every Airport

Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee apparently thinks Chick-fil-A has a constitutional right to exist in any airports it wants.

You may recall that the San Antonio City Council voted last week to approve a slate of new restaurants in the Texas airport only after Chick-fil-A was removed from the list of options. That’s because the Christian-owned chain has a history of giving to anti-LGBTQ organizations. Even now, it gives to Christian groups like Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army which don’t focus on bigotry but still preach that kind of bigotry for employees.

So there won’t be a Chick-fil-A at the airport. Not a big deal. Everyone else has moved on.

But not Huckabee. He can’t get over it.

“I wish that Chick-fil-A would sue the city of San Antonio,” Huckabee said on the Todd Starnes Radio Show. “It’s a restraint of trade. It’s really denying them the ability to do business.” … “It’s frightening to me as an American,” he said, referring to the city’s decision.

This is why you don’t put the dumbest people in American politics in charge of anything. On what possible grounds would Chick-fil-A sue the city? There’s no law requiring airports to let one particular chicken shack do business there. The city council can say yes or no to whatever slate of restaurants they want, and I’m sure there are plenty of other Christian-owned businesses in the airport.

San Antonio hasn’t banned Chick-fil-A. You know how we know that? Because, unlike Huckabee, we know how to look things up without talking out of our ass.

I went to the restaurant’s website and searched for locations within a 25-mile radius of “San Antonio.” And here you go:

Huckabee said it should terrify Americans that a city government wants to ban businesses based on religious beliefs.

Bullshit. They’re doing just fine, and they’re doing especially fine in San Antonio. Just because a company is owned by Christians and Huckabee loves to stuff his face with it doesn’t mean there’s a requirement it exist wherever he demands.

The fact that there may not be a Chick-fil-A in your line of sight isn’t evidence of Christian Persecution.

But the right-wing media world can’t function without pretending their side is perpetually oppressed.
