I swear to god I was in a Walmart in Edmonton years ago with my cousin who was in uniform. A man with a cowboy hat and his small kid comes up to him, extends his hand to shake it, looks him dead in the eye like he’s about to cry and says “ thank you for keeping us safe”. I almost died laughing but my cuz took it in stride

The military worship here is just as obscene as it is in America. My cousin has never even left Alberta lol

Military Vet here and I have to say that this is absolutely true. The following truths need to be said loudly and often:

the cheap Chinese-made yellow magnetic flag on your gas-guzzling SUV does not prove your support of Veterans; contacting congress to fund exit transition programs does.

Owning a fuel-efficient car so your fuel money doesn't go to Russia, Venezuela, Iran, or Saudi Arabia does more to protect and defend the USA than forgetting about the ongoing, generational wars in the Middle East does.

the lapel pin on the thousand dollar suit does not prove your representative/Senator/Presidential candidate supports those who serve in the military; deep, much-needed reform of the VA programs do

Calling everyone a hero doesn't make your obligations disappear. A free burger at TGIFridays once a year doesn't cut it; funding PTSD research, TBI treatmemt programs, and homelessness outreach, substance abuse programs, and job training takes real money, not corporate feel-good scraps.

Vote, and act, accordingly
